For the summer of 2021 we had plans to launch an easy drinking pale ale, one with a lighter body than any of the current beers we produced at the time. We also wanted it to be a lower ABV to make it easier to drink on hot summer days. Yet alas, we moved into summer on the back of tight restrictions that had been imposed all throughout winter and spring. As summer approached and the restrictions were gradually lifted, we were taken completely by surprise by the volume of demand for our market-present beers. We had to brew more regularly than anticipated and found ourselves with no time (and tank space) to brew the planned beer in. When we finally caught up with demand, having also had to wait very long for new ingredients to be imported (thanks to COVID-related logistical nightmares), it was already the end of August by the time we started brewing the batch of Baby Face which would be released onto the market.
Amongst all the hectic non-stop work we had around June, we even provided our designer at Bloom Creative with the wrong ABV and IBU for Baby Face. So the beer we initially intended to be released at 4% ABV and 36 IBU had to be brewed at the specs we received the labels with! Some tweaks to the recipe followed and Baby Face was released with 4.6% ABV and 26 IBU! We launched the beer at the beautiful location that is Salumeria Gardens, in a tranquil place surrounded by overhanging plants and a majestic backdrop provided by a Knight’s era building. With the support of the Gone Mars crew, led by brothers Pablo & Max, the event was a great success, and Baby Face took off to a solid start.
Baby Face was launched late, with different specs to those originally intended, yet nonetheless the beer was a hit, and the first batch sold out before we could even finish bottling the 2nd one. Safe to say we got lucky on this one!
