Alpha IPA: The Craft Beer That Started HUSKIE Brewing

If you’ve ever visited a craft brewery, chances are you’ve seen an IPA front and centre on the beer board. At HUSKIE, ours is Alpha—a beer that’s been with us since day one. Literally.

We first brewed Alpha back in our homebrewing days in 2017. And while the recipe’s been through more iterations than we can count, the heart of the beer remains the same. That said, if we brewed that original recipe today, we probably wouldn’t even recognise it. Let’s just say it’s come a long way.

Like most brewers, we went through a bit of an obsession phase. We wanted our IPA - bold in aroma, balanced in bitterness, full in body. We dialled in the malt profile, the mouthfeel, the ABV, the hop character—everything had to align with the kind of IPA Miguel and I loved drinking. We brewed Alpha over and over again, chasing that perfect expression. It became our benchmark.

In 2019, when we officially "opened the doors" to our brewery, Alpha was the first beer we launched. We wanted to make a statement, and Alpha said exactly what we needed it to: this is what a HUSKIE beer tastes like.

The response? Pretty much what we’d hoped for. People connected with it. It hit the right notes for both hop-heads and more casual drinkers. And so, Alpha earned its permanent spot in our core range of beers.

Whether you’re a fan of hoppy beers or just IPA-curious, Alpha is a beer that reflects who we are - curious, precise, and a bit relentless when it comes to getting things just right.
