BABY FACE: The Autumn-Launched Summer Beer
Back in early 2021, we had a plan. We wanted to brew a light, easy-drinking pale ale - something refreshing for the summer months, lower in ABV and lighter in body than anything we were producing at the time. The kind of beer that goes down easy in the heat.
But plans don’t always play out as expected.
After months of COVID restrictions throughout winter and spring, we hit summer with a bang - and got completely blindsided by demand. As venues reopened, orders for our core range beers surged. We were brewing around the clock just to keep up, with no spare tank space or time to bring a new beer to life.
By the time things settled down, it was already late August. Ingredient shipments had been delayed for weeks thanks to pandemic logistics, and only then were we finally able to start brewing what would become Baby Face.
And because things weren’t chaotic enough already, we even managed to send the wrong ABV and IBU specs to our designer at Bloom Creative. We’d originally aimed for 4.0% ABV and 36 IBU - something soft, crisp, and lightly bitter. But the labels came back with 4.6% ABV and 26 IBU, so we had to tweak the recipe to match the artwork. That’s how Baby Face ended up as a slightly stronger, slightly smoother beer than intended - and honestly, we’re not mad about it.
We launched Baby Face at the stunning Salumeria Gardens, backed by the crew from Gone Mars (shoutout to Pablo & Max). Set in a tranquil courtyard framed by lush greenery and a historic Knight’s-era backdrop, it was the perfect setting to introduce a beer we’d been chasing for months. And it worked — Baby Face flew off the shelves. The first batch sold out before we even finished bottling the second.
It came late. It came different. But it landed just right. Sometimes, beer has a funny way of working itself out.
