SMaSH that Mosaic

At HUSKIE, we’ve always been driven by curiosity - especially when it comes to ingredients. That’s exactly what led us to brew a S.M.a.S.H. beer (Single Malt and Single Hop). We wanted to understand what one malt and one hop could really do when given the spotlight. No distractions. No extras. Just a clean stage for flavour and aroma to shine.

The idea first came to us while sipping a saison we’d brewed in small batch form. It was simple, honest, and stripped back - and that simplicity got us thinking. What if we took our favourite base malt, Maris Otter, and paired it with one of our go-to hops, Mosaic, and just let them do the talking?

The result was everything we’d hoped for. The Mosaic hops burst through with layers of earthiness, ripe fruit, floral tones, and a hint of pine. The Maris Otter brought a smooth, rounded body that gave the beer balance and drinkability. The finish? Crisp, clean, and incredibly moreish.

Even better, it turned out to be a perfect introduction to craft beer for local drinkers used to lager. It’s approachable, refreshing, and just different enough to get people thinking: “This is beer too?” That’s why we still call Mosaic our entry-craft-beer - the ideal stepping stone into the world of hops, malts, and everything in between.
